His Excellency General The Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret’d), Governor of New South Wales, has recently granted Vice Regal Patronage to Save Sight Institute.
The grant of Patronage is held with high regard by the Institute, bestowed to organisations which have proven themselves within the community.
His Excellency is the 38th Governor of New South Wales, commencing his five year tenure in October 2014. Prior to his appointment as Governor, he served for 42 years in the Australian Army, concluding his service as the Chief of the Defence Force. His Excellency was awarded a Companion of the Order of Australia in 2010 for eminent service to the Australian Defence Force and a Distinguished Service Cross for his leadership during Operation SOLACE in Somalia in 1993.
The Governor, as patron, accompanied by his wife Mrs Hurley, delivered an address at the 30 Year Anniversary Gala Dinner of Save Sight Institute at The University of Sydney in September, where the grant of Patronage was officially announced.
As Governor of New South Wales and Vice Regal Patron of Save Sight Institute, His Excellency intends to assist programs, promote innovation and achievement and advocate for marginalised members of the community.
In a statement made by His Excellency, “I have found it immensely rewarding to travel around our regions and in our cities to discover the many wonderful initiatives, programs and endeavours conducted by so many dedicated people.
“Many of these people give their time, energy and resources voluntarily to promote the interests and advance the well-being of the community.”
Save Sight Institute is honoured to be granted Patronage by His Excellency, especially during a time of celebrating 30 years of achievement and anticipating an even greater future in research, patient care and teaching.
