“My dry eye symptoms appeared around 18 years ago, and have slowly worsened over the years. At one stage I had a corneal ulcer and multiple infections due to extreme dryness.
“Life with dry eyes is very frustrating. I need to use eye drops every single waking hour of every single day! I also have to clean my eyelids regularly to manage blepharitis (inflamed eyelids).
“The wind is a constant problem, and I can no longer go for walks or spend time outside. For exercise, I walk up and down a long path in my carpark six times each day! If I do need to go outside, I always need wrap-around sunglasses to protect my eyes from the wind.
“Watching television, or using a computer, is also very uncomfortable at times.
“I dream of the day when a breakthrough is discovered to cure this annoying condition. In the meantime, I’m very grateful for existing treatments which make life considerably more bearable.”
